Man is a wanting animal. Migration starts from Volga to Ganga.Travelling on the back of animal was the initial mode of transportation. Industrial revolution contributed invention of internal combustion engines using hydro carbon as their main fuel and from there onwards vehicles using petrol and diesel became preferred mode of transport not only for their commuting but also for carrying goods from one place to other as it is fast, easy and cost effective.

Industrialization and Urbanization paves way for exponential raise in number of vehicles on the road to cope up with increased economic activity. Any scientific invention has its own pros & cons. Technically speaking as we are using petrol and diesel vehicles for transportation we are emitting oxides of carbon & nitrogen and also dust particles from the exhaust of the vehicles venting in to atmosphere resulting pollution and health hazards.

To mitigate the pollution a device called EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) was invented in the year 1970 by General Motors USA to reduce toxic gas emission by recirculating 5% to 35%of the exhaust gases and they made this device mandatory for diesel driven vehicles. This EGR device also adopted by all other countries to control pollution in different time frame work and implemented by government regulatory authority.

Year after year increased in number of vehicles on the road result in increase in pollution. Therefore, regulatory authority of India framed to limit pollution level as BS 6 standards. Petrol (C4H10) and Diesel (C14H30) are the main two fuels used in Automotive Industries. Being higher number of carbon and hydrogen molecules in Diesel fuel, Government of India fixed pollution norms adhering to BS6 standards for Diesel vehicles with higher engine capacity to reduce the pollution from April 1 2021.
